Evolution of Democracy in the Czech Republic
The Velvet Revolution of 1989 ushered in a new era for the people of Czechoslovakia. The communist regime was replaced by a parliamentary republic that in 1993 was split into two independent nations - the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Seen as a model of democratic government, today the Czech Republic is increasingly challenged by populism and political polarization and dysfunction.
The history, current state and possible future of democracy in the Czech Republic will be explored in a new CITIZENARTS educational documentary that is now in production.
